In all the places I've lived and all the dentists I have visited over the years, this is my favorite.
At Tinsley Dentistry, we understand that no one looks forward to having a tooth removed. Our goal is to make the process as gentle, stress-free, and comfortable as possible—while helping you protect your long-term oral health.
Why You Might Need a Tooth Extraction
Tooth extractions are sometimes the best way to restore health and comfort to your smile. We may recommend removing a tooth if:
-
It’s severely decayed or damaged beyond repair
-
It’s causing crowding or blocking orthodontic treatment
-
You have an infection that can’t be resolved with root canal therapy
-
Your wisdom teeth are impacted or painful
-
A fractured tooth extends below the gumline
Our first priority is always to save your natural teeth whenever possible. Extraction is only recommended when it’s the healthiest choice for your mouth.

What to Expect During Your Visit
-
Comprehensive Exam – Dr. Tinsley will evaluate your tooth, review X-rays, and discuss the best treatment approach.
-
Comfort & Anesthesia – We’ll use local anesthesia (and sedation, if needed) to ensure you’re completely comfortable.
-
Gentle Extraction – The tooth is carefully loosened and removed using precision instruments and a light touch.
-
Aftercare & Healing – You’ll receive clear, step-by-step instructions to help you heal quickly and comfortably at home.

Most patients are surprised at how easy the process feels and how quickly they recover.

Aftercare & Recovery
You can expect mild soreness or swelling for the first day or two. To promote healing:
-
Keep gauze in place for the first hour
-
Avoid drinking through straws or smoking for 48 hours
-
Eat soft foods and stay hydrated
-
Use prescribed or over-the-counter pain relief as directed
-
Brush gently and keep the area clean
We’ll follow up with you to make sure your recovery is going smoothly.
Replacing an Extracted Tooth
If you’re losing a permanent tooth, we’ll help you plan for a healthy replacement option such as a dental implant, bridge, or partial denture. Replacing missing teeth prevents bone loss and keeps your bite stable for years to come.
